Hayes Farms started raising hair sheep in 2016. We started with 5 ewes that are Katahdin and St. Croix crosses and we are adding some Dorper to our herd in the spring.
We are continuing our chemical free GMO free feeding program for our herd so our lambs are Certified Naturally Grown.
Katahdin sheep were originally bred in Maine to be a low maintenance breed. St. Croix sheep originated in the Virgin Islands and are known for having multiple lambs. Dorper sheep came into existence by crossing 2 different sheep the Dorset and the Blackhead Persian. They do not need to be sheared since they shed their winter coats in the spring.
